Vulkan Maxi Recoilless De-Armer Disrupter
The Vulkan Disrupter system is a 4th generation maxi modular, variable projectile mass, recoilless equipment which can be configured as:
- Close Up De Armer using plain slug or chisel slug against UXB fuses.
- Stand Off De Armer using spin stabilised plain slug at ranges up to 30m (100ft) against UXB fuses.
- Close Up De Armer using blade projectile typically against pipe bombs and certain other IEDs.
- Close Up Disrupter using either 200ml or 300ml of water in C-IED applications.
- Stand Off Disrupter using 200g spin stabilised frangible projectiles at ranges of up to 30m (100ft) and beyond in C-IED applications and in breaching / entry SWAT operations etc.

Features
- 40mm rifled barrel for stand-off applications.
- Gas regulator which varies gas volume to the compensator permitting the system tobe completely recoilless for projectiles masses of between 200 and 300g.
- Powerful green lasers with enhanced safety features such as programmable time out.
- Lasers feature contra rotating prisms which make zeroing quick and easy.
- For safety Laser Sights feature automatic time-out and cannot be used independent of the turret and stand.
- Constructed in either tempered stainless steel or tempered titanium in situations where a very lightweight system, is desirable.
- The canon in Titanium is approximately half the weight of the stainless steel version.
40mm Rifled Barrel which enhances the accuracy of long stand-off frangible and solid projectiles. This at the same time enables the projectiles to be of a simpler, cheaper construction and gives more effective target disruption.
Gas Regulator, allows the volume of gas to the compensator to be varied across 3 settings enabling the system to be completely recoilless with a range of projectile types with masses from 200 to 300g.
Anti-Rotation Peg, prevents the disrupter from rotating when using rifled barrel and ensures that disrupter is always indexed in the same position to enhance accuracy.
Common Breech Plug with two electrical adaptors
allowing the use of leaded electric cartridges with
the basic plug, leadless electric cartridges and
percussion initiated cartridges. The percussion
system features an electrically powered solenoid to
strike the firing pin. This means that the Vulkan can
be used with some currently available in service
Cartridges and the new Countermeasure Systems
Leadless Electric and Percussion Cartridges.
Percussion Cartridges eliminate any danger from
RF induction through long firing cables.
Laser Sights
The Laser Sights incorporate several Safety Features:
- Automatic time out after 1-5 minutes according to time delay selected by the Operator.
- Each laser sight can easily be removed from the turret.
- Power derives from a tubular power pack using off the shelf batteries and housed in the upper arm of the multi position stand. This prevents the lasers being used for any other purpose.
Laser Specifications
- The standard lasers are 35mw, 532nM Green. Green lasers are 10 x more visible to the human eye than other colours.
- When lasers coincide if for example used to range as well as aim, the two spots will merge as a solid dot.
- The lasers are zeroed by means of contra rotating prisms making zeroing a quick and easy operation.
- Lasers are significantly more stable.

Arm Details
Upper arm of multi position stand can be telescoped out in situations where a longer reach is needed. The arm can also be rotated thereby angling the disrupter to one side or the other and the brass clamping collar locks the arm in the desired position.
The all-aluminium multi position stand features hard anodised splined, sprung loaded joints permitting easy adjustment but providing a completely rigid structure.

Additional Configurations
Vulkan configured for close up water or elastomer shots. System can be loaded with either 200ml or 300ml by varying the position of the piston in the barrel and altering the gas regulator to the appropriate setting.
The multi position stand can be inverted to facilitate a very low angle attack, for example using a
standoff spin stabilised clay frangible projectile at an under vehicle IED.
Configured with blade projectile. Laser sights can if desired be quickly removed.

DISRUPTER LONG STAND-OFF
PROJECTILE – SPIN STABILISED FRANGIBLE CLA This is a 200g projectile comprising an HDPE one piece piston-carrier filled with refined china clay. This is fired through the 40mm rifled barrel which causes the projectile to spin thereby considerably enhancing accuracy for long stand-off shots out to 30 metres and beyond. The projectile is also mass stabilised. The projectile can be used against a wide variety of IED targets. It can also be used for punching through car doors and windows to hit an IED on the inside of the vehicle. It is also extremely effective for taking out the locks on doors to enable breaching/rapid entry etc.
PROJECTILE – SPIN STABILISED FRANGIBLE CERAMIC
This is a 200g projectile comprising an HDPE one piece piston-carrier filled with alumina balls and powder. This is fired through the 40mm rifled barrel which causes the projectile to spin thereby considerably enhancing accuracy for long stand-off
shots out to 30 metres and beyond. The projectile is also mass and drag stabilised.
The projectile is designed to be used against IEDs with heavier metal enclosures. It can also be used to punch through vehicle doors and other panels to take out an IED inside the vehicle. It is also extremely effective for taking out the locks on very heavy doors to enable breaching/rapid entry etc.
Stand-off – 0.20 to 30m and beyond.
PROJECTILE – SPIN STABILISED FRANGIBLE CERAMIC WITH PENETRATOR
This is a 200g projectile with a similar construction except that it also features a penetrator cone. This version of the Projectile is designed for punching into heavy metal enclosures such as LP gas containers, pressurised drinks kegs and heavy
fire extinguishers etc. Also, for punching through vehicle doors to take out, for example an IED in a metal container inside the vehicle.
DE ARMER CLOSE-UP
PROJECTILE – PLAIN SLUG A 75mm (3”) long 287g flat ended steel projectile, fitted with an ‘O’ Ring, which is used in conjunction with the 1” (25.4mm) De Armer barrel. The Plain Slug is designed to attack a UXB fuse, in accordance with NATO RSPs, to de-arm a UXB. Typical stand-off – 15 to 30cm
PROJECTILE – CHISEL
A 75mm (3”) long 261g offset chisel shaped projectile, fitted with an ‘O’ Ring, which is used in conjunction with 1” (25.4mm) De Armer barrel. The Chisel Projectile is designed to dynamically cut off and drift to one side the fuse pocket of certain UXBs,
under NATO RSPs.
Typical stand-off – 15 to 30cm
PROJECTILE – BLADE
A 75mm (3”) diameter steel blade welded to a 1” (25.4mm) steel shaft. The projectile is used with the 1” (25.4mm) De Armer barrel. It is primarily designed for cutting pipe bombs into two pieces in order to neutralise and/or vent them in the
event of a high order. It can also be used for cutting off certain UXB fuses, the tops of some fire extinguishers, heavy cables and pipes etc.
Typical stand-off – 20 to 30cm.
PROJECTILE – FORK
The Fork Projectile is fired from the 1” Barrel Short. The tube which fits into the Barrel is hollow, therefore, on firing venting most of the gas so that the Projectile is propelled at very low velocity. Its purpose is to hold the striker featured on many WW2 US and UK air dropped bombs.

DE ARMER STAND-OFF
PROJECTILE – SPIN STABILISED PLAIN SLUG A 75mm (3”) long 287g flat ended steel projectile, fitted with an ‘O’ Ring, which is used in conjunction with the 1” (25.4mm) De Armer barrel. CARTRIDGE LEADLESS ELECTRIC
CSL 50 CAL MP The Leadless Electric 50 Cal Cartridge (CSL 50 Cal MP – Medium Pressure) is a blank power cartridge designed for use in the CSL Viper Disrupter system. The one cartridge type is used in all configurations. Classification – UN 0323 Class 1.4S Cartridges Power Device. Approved for shipment as freight on passenger aircraft.
